What would I do if I win the five thousand dollars ($5000) in WBCOOP? It’s a nice pay day if I win because it’s hard to earn that amount of money in a given day. Since its summer time I might spend some of it in a vacation to Boracay after that I’ll go to Macau and gamble the rest of it in the casinos but it’s not a good thing. Maybe I’ll buy some Lebron James sneakers and Michael Jordan’s Concorde because I like those kicks. Another option will be depositing it all at Pokerstars and challenge the players at the mid stakes game but not also a good option. Thinking of bringing my mom to Hong Kong and go shopping but the sad thing is mom is afraid to ride the plane. Another option will be is quitting my day job and using that money as my poker bankroll as a fulltime professional poker player but I’m still thinking about it. Would love to spend it in a private pool party but I’m not a party guy. I think I should a buy a gun for security reasons but I’m not a gangster. Maybe I’ll buy a 2nd hand car but I really want a brand new. I’ll give some of it to my mom for her slot machine and bingo games in the casino but wait that’s a bad investment for because it’s a game of luck. Might as well give some to charity but then again I didn’t win that big. I can also use it to enter an upcoming big poker tournament but we all know how hard to win a tournament and you need a lot of luck to win tournaments. I’m also thinking going back to my old hobby of collecting toys. I would love to buy some movie authentic replicas because I’m a geek. Geek rocks! I’m also thinking of using the money in renovating my place because there are a lot of things need to be fixed but then again the place still looks nice maybe not now maybe some other time. I could also go shopping with that money and change my wardrobe but I just don’t feel it. Love to buy some expensive watches but again it’s not a good investment. Since I’m an Asian I think I should buy Jeremy Lin’s jersey because he is rocking the National Basketball Association right know but I’m not a diehard New York Knicks fan. I also have plans of changing my name like what the hell Ron Artest did. He changed his name to Metta World Peace. Fuck My Life. There are so many things I could do with five thousand dollars on my pocket. Some are crazy. Some are really nice that could do nice things to others. I could live a baller life with that money in a few days or so but then again I just want a simple life after all. I’ll just follow Daniel Negreanu’s advice, buy a bottle of water and go straight home because money is very hard to earn. But I’ll change mine a bit. After winning that money, I’ll call Mc Donald’s’ delivery and order 2 orders of double cheese burger meal and up size it and continue with my simple life.

Life Cards

It’s been months since I started my poker training. I started really bad and almost went broke at a certain point. During that point an emergency meeting was called. I was tasked to do something out of the box, which is out of my comfort.
“I don’t know if this will motivate or demoralize you. For example, you’re the star player of a basketball team and it’s the last 5 seconds of the ball game. A time out was called and a play was designed for you to take that last shot. If you make then you’re still in and if not you’re out of the team.”
That was the last words said to me before the meeting ended. I stick to the game plan and made steady progress as the weeks pass by.
I’ve learned a lot in the past months made me better as a poker player and as a person. But the most important things I’ve learned is how to play the life cards dealt to you and how to deal with life variance. Playing good life cards dealt to you is easy but playing bad life cards dealt to you is challenging. Dealing with bad life variance is difficult. Even if you make the best decision with good life cards it doesn’t guarantee that you’ll win the pot when the life river card is finally revealed. Of course, there could be a lot of chances in everything just like run twice in poker to reduce variance. These are the things we can’t control. But this is a sign, telling us to fix our game, to fix our life. These things will always be there everyday falling down on our pathways making our life worse at some point and making us better once we pass thru them. Shrug it off, learn and play better.

Almost 7 years after . . . . . .

Finally after 7 years of playing poker, I finally reached the final table. After all the hard work and meltdowns in the previous tourneys I’ve played I finally made it but I just ended up 8th out of 381 runners. I made a good job, it was a good run, it was a memorable experience and I have no regrets about it. I’ve made mistakes in the final which I think if I avoided it, I would end up higher than 8th place. I just have to learn from this experience and do better next time.

Every hand played is a lesson learned. . .

I’ve been reviewing my crucial hands in the tournaments I’ve played in the past few days. It’s frustrating when you bust out in an online tournament because of an error. I have to avoid this kind of mistakes since I’m always repeating it! Need to do some adjustments.
As for my live tourney game, I was a not happy with the way I played last DICC. There are some spots I’ve made a bad play. I should have gone deeper if I played my A-game. I busted out early in day 2 of DICC but I took down APA Top Rollers Finale that night. This is the thing that really bothered me while playing DICC. But things happen for a better reason. It was bound to happen that I bust out early at day 2 of DICC and win APA Top Rollers Finale. At the end of the day I was happy on the way how things have turned out, no regrets at all.
I will make adjustments in my next live tourney. I have to bounce back with that poor performance last DICC if I want to win my 1st big live event. It takes a lot of time for good things to happen and I’m really happy I’m learning.
